The 17th FINA World Championships will take place from 14 - 30 July 2017 in Budapest, Hungary. The event was first held in 1973 and is now held every two years. From 1978-1998, the World Championships were held every four years, in the even years between Summer Olympic years. From 2001 on, the Championships have been held every two years, in the odd years.

Lewis Clareburt from Capital Swim Club broke the New Zealand Open Record in the Men's 400 Individual Medley in tonight’s racing. Clareburt swam an incredible 4:09.87 seconds. The new record is over 2 seconds faster than the previous record (4:12.07 seconds), which Clareburt broke in 2019 when he claimed the Bronze medal at the FINA World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea.

The 2021 Apollo Projects Short Course Championships kicks off today at the Sir Owen Glenn National Aquatic Centre in Auckland. Held across five days from 17 – 21 August 2021, this event will see the best athletes from around the country battle it out to the title of national champion. The event will also serve as a selection meet for the 2021 FINA World Short Course Championships to be held in Abu Dhabi in December.
